Buttermilk Button Down Shirt Striped and Plain
Studio Notes
The button-down collar shirt is a timeless menswear classic, it remains as stylish today as it did a century ago. Being a wardrobe essential for any smart-casual outing, we decided to do something different and play around a bit, carefully selecting a mixture of complimentary ticking stripes and plain cotton for different panels of the pattern in the same base colour, a soft off-white cream. The colour option is named after the bi-product from churning butter, as well as the fermented drink enjoyed by many across continents.
Playfully elegant, it serves as a perfect weekend shirt and adds a unique twist to any smart casual outfit. Wear open collared and untucked with denim and a good piece of zero-waste knitwear, or for a neater look, style with chinos and a blazer (tie optional).
Crafted in the heart of Somerset, England, from cotton oxford, we have adopted a regular fit silhouette, using floating interlinings, single-needle construction, and an elegant rolling button-down collar. Each shirt is individually made in the UK, passing through skilled hands at every stage of production.Designed and manufactured to be worn, washed and cherished, a good quality shirt should last and soften up over time.
The origins of the button-down shirt are rumoured to trace back to adoptive Indian polo players who modified their cotton shirts by adding buttons to stabilise their collars during matches, stopping them flapping whilst on horseback.
